STORE CLOSED TOMORROW SUNDAY 5th OF FEB

February 4th, 2012 by admin

A huge apology in advance to anybody who was planning on coming to the store tomorrow, we will be closed all day as I am racing by bicycle motocross bike in a large bicycle motocross race.

We will be re open as normal on Tuesday bright and early at 11am.

Of course if it is absolutely bucketing down with rain all day then there is a good chance that I will be opening the shop instead of riding around in a horrible mud pit.

Until we meet again, keep getting rad. This man pictured above knows how to do just that. Sweet table with an even sweeter mo! Peace out gangsters.

RAINY DAY RANDUMBS ARE HERE ONCE AGAIN

February 2nd, 2012 by Tom

Summer is still here apparently but the past few weeks have felt un- seasonable to say the least. The rain is falling and seems to be showing no signs if slowing. One good thing about rainy weather is it seems to make me extra productive. Have you noticed the amount of posts in the last 24 hours? I had a bit of a play with the shop camera today and snapped a few from inside the store.

Lukey B popped in to get himself a sweet new custom built front wheel and to lace a fresh G Sport rim onto his old faithful 48 hole Profile SS hub. Get on! Rainy days dont seem so bad when I get to play with classy toys like these.

A couple from inside the emporium which is currently home to Matt’s 1953 BSA Bantam.

When I was 16 back in the year 2000, a set of Primo Powerbite cranks with a T1 Gower Power sprocket and Primo Meat Tenderizer pedals was the ultimate fantasy drive train , now 12 years on I have this set up on my ex Pete Majoinen FBM night train. To say that i am so very excited to own this set up today would be a severe understatement.

The FBM is a very special bike and it needed a special wheel build. I aways wanted to try the 3 leading 3 trailing spoke pattern out on a BMX wheel, and to my suprise it ended up working out quite well. The big heavy Sun Ringle’ hubs suit the overweight theme on this bike superbly.

And now let us all listen to the rain drops on our windows as well as a bit of Led Zep.

Finally, if you are not yet sick of looking at the computer screen here is 40 odd minutes of amazing action from 1988. Entertainment is a worthy way to describe this, there is was much amazing stuff getting done back then. Hell I even spotted a couple of legitimate mullets in there, great viewing indeed.

EATEN BY WOLVES …………BY WHAT? …………… WOLVES

February 2nd, 2012 by Tom

Skip to 1.53 minutes in or just watch the whole thing in its amazing entirety.

That is right ………. Wolves!

Oh yes indeed, the most popular railed seat in BMX is back in town. Mike Aitken is a living legend and his style will forever be the envy of riders the world over. Somewhere down the line Mike developed some kind of strange fascination with wolves. This fascination eventually filtered down into his signature line of parts, shoes ect, of which many have wolves printed on them. Wolves are pretty rad I reckon and Mike Aitken is definitely rad so how can you lose. The Mike Aitken Signature seat with rails made by Odyssey ………. awesome and only $39!
Buying one of these my just make you want to do some of this………….

Dancing wolves are maybe radder than a seat, Mike Aitken or anything else in the universe combined . Oh those crazy boys of the Boosh are classic!

WULL HAIRMAN

February 2nd, 2012 by Tom

Our good pal Will Herrmann, pictured here enjoying a pint at The Hero Of Waterloo with James Piccalou, has been over in New Zealand for the past couple of months. I recently got word from him that he is having a jolly good time indeed. He has been hanging out in Queenstown riding the amazing wonderland that is the Gorge trails as well as hiking partying and basically living the dream. To say I am not jealous would be a bald faced lie. He sent through a couple of pics just to rub it in a little harder ……….. Damn you Herrmann, damn you!

That place looks like some kind of wild fantasy land. I am just green with jealous rage right about now, sitting here indoors on the computer whilst it is pouring with rain outside. Will assures us he will be back at some stage but I dont think i could blame him if he decided to stay over there in paradise for ever.
In other un- related Will Herrmann trivia, he shares the Surname ( but not the spelling ) of professional American BMX racer David Herman. To celebrate this not so amazing fact here is a pic of David in action. Forgive me for using a BMX Plus photo. Smash it David!

Now that your appetite for trail action has been wet by Willies snap shots here are a couple of web clips courtesy of Deluxe to get you stoked this soggy afternoon.

S.H.I.A DAY

February 1st, 2012 by admin

What is S.H.I.A i hear you ask? It simply stands for ” So Horrible It’s Awesome” and that my friends was the inspiration for the latest custom build to come out of uncle Tommy’s evil bicycle laboratory. Yesterday once the building began, I could not come up with a name for this new work of evil genius no matter how many ideas and names I found at the bottom of my mind tank, I was just drawing blanks. Today was a fresh day and as soon as the beast was complete, the name just came to me, it was so organic. Enough of the fluff, without further ado, ladies and Gentlemen a round of applause for………

………….. The one and only Olletanod!!

Olletanod is the reverse spelling of Donatello. If you know your stuff then you know that Donatello was the Teenage mutant Ninja Turtle whose colour was purple. Donatello was predominantly green with purple highlights, the Olletanod is the reverse of this and is mainly purple with green highlights. Reverse! Wow!

Donatello was a badass. Shown here getting things done with master splinter. Olletanod is also a bit badass and has an impressive spec list to back up its wild looks. Using a Mankind Justice frame, forks bars and cranks and mated together with Proper Bike Co’s finest of wheel sets, stem and sprocket, this is one serious turtle. Fly Ruben tyres and graphite pedals, Animal Edwin and a United pivotal seat round off what is set to be one of the most talked about bikes in this room! The pictures really do not do any kind of justice to this bike so that just means you will have to get yourself down here to inspect Olletanod in the flesh and for a cool $1449 you may be left think that it is so amazingly S.H.I.A that you may just end up purchasing it for yourself!

THE WEB VIDEO LORDS ARE HAVING A GOOD TIME

February 1st, 2012 by Tom

They must be having a really good week up there in web vid fantasia as yet another epic Brian Foster video part has been posted up on Vimeo. This time it is Brians part from the epic Fit DVD of a few years back “Stay Fit “. You may be asking yourself, ” man, what is with Tom and all his Brian Foster posts of late? Enough already! “. First things first, you can never have too much Brian Foster in your life, the dude is a living legend, who in my book should actually be used as the dictionary meaning for the term BMX Rider from now on. This video part has a great feel to it and I challenge you to not want to pick up your bike and go for a ride upon viewing this little masterpiece. Lets just hope this horrible Sydney weather sorts its self out before too long.

Did you enjoy that? Yes indeed I did sir!

TERRIFIC TUESDAYS

January 31st, 2012 by Tom

Tuesdays really seem to be terrific these days. Today I started a new custom build and boy is it going to be a doozy. There is no middle ground on this one, you will either love it or absolutely loathe it. I can not really give you more info than that but I can guarantee that it will not be as ugly as this flatland bike.

You will have to wait until tomorrow for the unveiling of the yet to be named bike, some will love some will hate. For me Iam going to say it is so bad that it is awesome! My reaction after getting about halfway through the build looked a little like this………

……….Stunned!
On the topic of stunning things,( see what i did there, ey…… ey! ) I stumbled across some more vintage BMX gold today, this time in the form of some amazing advertisements.

I dont know about you but I now have this burning urge to buy a Huffy , some Skyways and a pink Hutch. Those advertising executives back in the day knew what they were doing! See you all tomorrie for the unveiling of project ” So horrible its awesome” , I cant wait to hear some reactions to this thing.

SWEET OL SATURDAY

January 28th, 2012 by Tom

I was very excited to discover that this little beauty has been posted up on vimeo. So the first thing I did was watch it 3 times then post it up on here. Brian Foster needs no introduction and it is no secret that I have a large man crush on him. This part from Save The Woods is all time. Enjoy …………… then go out for a ride, for Petes sake its Saturday and it appears to be sunny outside. Do it!

Legendary!!!!!

UNITED COLOURS OF UNITED

January 27th, 2012 by Tom

Had a small top up of some United goddies come through today and man are they looking colourful, vibrant even. First off we have some colourful places to park you rear. Fortunately for us the humble BMX saddle has come along way in recent years and is now a more comfortable and attractive place to sit.

Unlike these old wooden chairs, although colourful, the United slim microfibre pivotal seats are a great place to sit, and dont they just look fantastic! Colours, lovely colourful colours!!!!!

I believe Leo Forte was one of the pioneers of the brown corduroy seat, and now you can have one all for your self. Wow……….. brown corduroy………… what a revelation! A brown cord pivotal seat may seem like a crazy notion, but I will have you know that brown corduroy is a very versatile material. Please see some fine example of brown corduroy being put to fantastic and fashionable use.

Sofa bed anyone?

Or how about some brown cord shoes?

Or this fashionable cap, actually I dont mind that at all, I reckon that would suit me pretty well.

Brown cord aside these seats are amazing and you sould see them in the flesh, the word stunning comes to mind. Aside from splendid saddles we also have some new versions of the ever rad Nathan Williams grips in various colours to satisfy even the harshest of colour co-ordinated bicycle stylists out there, and they are pretty damn comfy too.

There you have it folks ooks like United have kicked themselves another goal. Legendary!

STRAYA DAY MOIITE!

January 25th, 2012 by Tom

Tomorrow is Australia day and to celebrate this great day, I am having the day off. Every one else seems to doing the same so why not! I will see you all on Friday and try not to do your self any kind of injury from excessive flag waving or vegemite eating. Get On!

HISTORY LESSON OF THE WEEK

January 24th, 2012 by Tom

Bike of the week time and this week we have a treat for anybody old enough to know who Darell Young is. A freaking JMC!

JMC was one of the radder companies out there in BMX land in the late 70s and early 80s. What started out as a bike shop named Jim Melton Cycles in 1969, became a full on BMX frame and components manufacturer by 1977-78. Ask most old schoolers out there and they will tell you that JMC was one of the must have bikes of the era, hell I was born just one year before JMC went out of business and after seeing this beauty in the flesh i want one!

Darell Young ( with the number 7 on his plate ) was one of JMCs top gun riders and was regarded as one of the best and most stylish riders of his time. Much like Brian Foster, he could beat you in a race and then out do you at the local trails. Legendary.

Many Aussie BMX racers of today as well as those from yesteryear will know who Damon Bevan is. Damon is an absolute legend and one of the coolest guys you wil ever meet. Pictured above in the early 80s getting rad. Damon rode for JMC for many years and I am sure he still has every single one of his old bikes tucked away safely at home making the most die hard BMX collectors extremely jealous. Damon is still racing and is still pretty damn quick around the track too.

There you go folks, nothing like a little bit of history for you on a Tuesday afternoon……. hoorah!!!!!

TOTALLY TEMPERED AND BONE TIL DETH

January 24th, 2012 by Tom

Fresh through our front door via cardboard box and packing tape, we have a fresh batch of Tempered goods as well some tasty Bone Deth bits.

The Bones stems have proven to be a popular little number ever since its release a couple of years ago and for good reason. Top and Front loaders are back in stock and ready to grace your bicycle with its presence and handlebar holding abilities. Hoo Haa!

The new Liiv Fast signature seat has been in the works for awhile and Mr Liiv himself has been using a prototype for an extended period of time , Alex had this to say about his seat, ” yeah my seat is stunningly satisfying and sweet to sit on”. You heard it here first folks! Available in slim and fatter sizes to accommodate for all saddle connoisseurs.

The good old 1929 bars are back and looking classy as ever. A new addition to Tempereds already sterling range of handlebars is the ” Datura” bars. About friggin time Benny Piggins got himself some signature bits,Iam well aware that his surname is Pigot and not Piggins but it does rhyme with friggin so get over it! Benn has been killing it on his bike for ever now and you have been lucky enough to witness this phenomenon in person then you know what I am on about. His bars are much like his riding……… largin and chargin! 29 inches wide, 9 inches tall with 12.5 degrees of backsweep and 1.5 degrees of upsweep. Get On Bay!

Anchor Down sprockets are back in black ………. and blue too.

Now for the slightly louder and green slimed side of the equation we have two new seats from Bone Deth!

These really do not need any form of explanation what so ever. Pivotal seat, covered in radical. Done.
You can check out all of these fine products here and here.

RAINY DAY RANDOM RUBBISH

January 21st, 2012 by Tom

So what was meant to be a nice weekend in Sydney is now looking a little grim as the rain seems to have made itself right at home and is lurking around like that annoying weirdo at the party who for some reason feels obliged to attach himself to you for the duration. To celebrate rain and slight boredom here is some more random rubbish to keep you entertained.

Space food sticks are back. I dont know about you but in my youth Space food sticks were one of my favourite sugary snacks . Im sure there is not really any real “food” in these but they do have a drawing of a futuristic BMX racer on the box and that counts for alot! That dude must be awesome because his plate is number 1, RAD!

On the topic of annoying lurkers, this crazy kid storms into the shop wearing a whole stack of currently fashionable headware chanting that he is number one and that he is the greatest of all time. Weird indeed.

Last of all here is a humorous web clip I stumbled across, at the risk of starting a war against or big wheeled and suspension cushioned brothers ,I will opt for keeping my mouth shut on this one.

Fingers crossed for some better weather and trail action for tomorrow .

PASSPORT.

January 21st, 2012 by Tom

It certainly has been a great week for quality Australian owned brands here at the shop, we started the week with Afray who may very well be the sweetest brand in BMX right now, and now we are the proud stockist of Passport. Passport is a local skate and clothing company who’s attention to detail and quality are of some of the highest level of any brand I have ever seen. Expect amazing things from these guys in the future. To get the ball rolling on what is sure to be a great relationship between brand and store we got in a small selection of what these dudes have on offer. Check it out in the photos, then come see it in person then buy some and be stoked on life, sounds like a sweet little chain of events to me.

Printed on some of the finest quality shirts, the Passport Tees are a tidy little number indeed. $44.95

The Bosco series of decks are all pretty darn attractive, expect us to stock more of these baddies in the future. $89

SOCKS!!!!! I am not going to lie to you I am a sucker for a good pair of socks and although it may sound a bit wrong, I did get quite excited when these showed up maybe too excited. But for $19 for a pack of 5 pairs, I challenge you to not get excited when you have seen these in real life. I have taken a pack home for myself and am currently on day 3 and pair number 3 and couldnt be more stoked on socks and life!

See, I aint lying to you.

Passport dont just make amazing decks and clothing, they also have a badass team.

RANDUMBs

January 19th, 2012 by Tom

Not a whole lot to report on today. I have really been enjoying owning a half decent camera of late, so to celebrate Canon G12 ownership here are a few random snaps from around the shop today.

Neckless, Afray shirt helmet man was in the house

Im not normally a fan of arachnids but I spent a few intimate hours with a spider today and I think I have made a new friend.

Had to duck out for a second to grab one of these…………..

Ahhh that hit the spot!

Spin for the win!

Well that post filed my lunch break nicely. Peace outs brown trouts.
